Iced Coconut Matcha Latte

I do love my smoothies, but sometimes I need to change it up a bit.

Have something that’ll tickle my taste-buds and make me feel super cool making it in the kitchen. This show-stopper coconut matcha latte fits that bill perfectly.

It’s super creamy, the coconut milk makes this a super indulgent drink and goes perfectly with the beautiful green tea taste and lingering sweetness of the matcha. It’s pretty awesome!

It’s a powerhouse drink, it fills you with energy and keeps you satisfied for ages! You have the amazing fats from the coconut milk and coconut oil, along with the energy boosting matcha and maca powders.

It’s subtly sweet without being sickly, which means it works perfectly in the morning as well as an afternoon pick-me-up.

If you want to make it sweeter, then by all means just add some more maple syrup or even stevia. Especially if you’re a bit new to the matcha and green tea it can taste a bit bitter, but the better quality the matcha then the sweeter it will be!

While matcha does have some caffeine, it is worlds away from coffee. That’s because it also has the amino acid Theanine, which basically controls the caffeine, and so gives you the same energising effects without the anxiety that comes with coffee, stimulating the brain while relaxing the mind. Pretty cool right?!

There was a time I used to drink quite a bit of coffee in the morning – double shot and no milk, I was a barista after all – but I’ve never been one of those people who absolutely needs coffee in the morning, you know, those who are a bleary-eyed zombie until a hot mug is shoved between their hands.

It always made me jittery though, so much so that sometimes I would have to excuse myself and go sit down for a bit to try and pull myself together. Not a pretty sight.

I love being able to make drinks at home that are usually only available when I find a cool cafe with an alternative drinks menu. Matcha is finally starting to gain more fame, and I’m loving it!

By blending it we make the matcha super frothy, and I just love how ice-cold and fun this drink is!

Iced Coconut Matcha Latte
This coconut matcha iced latte is a powerhouse drink, it fills you with energy and keeps you satisfied for ages! It tastes so yummy and is the perfect substitute for sugar-filled shop-bought iced lattes and frappes!
Recipe type: Vegan, Paleo, Healthy, Smoothie, Latte,
Serves: 1 large glass
  • 175ml nut milk (almond or cashew are best)
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or 2 drops stevia
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla powder
  • Pinch of pink Himalayan or sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon maca powder (optional)
  • Big handful of ice, divided into 3
  • 250ml coconut milk
  1. Place all of the ingredients except the coconut milk and ⅓ of the ice into a blender and blend until smooth. Add another ⅓ of the ice and pulse a few times, just to break it down slightly.
  2. Add the coconut milk and the remaining ice into a glass or jar and slowly pour in the green matcha so that the two don’t fully mix but create a beautiful layered look.
You could make it into a frappe by crushing the ice if you wanted.
