My Favourite Green Smoothie to Start 2015 with a Bang!

I see this green smoothie as a stepping stone into the green smoothie world.

Everyone can benefit from adding a bit more greens into their life, and this green smoothie is probably my favourite as its super creamy and doesn’t have a bitter green flavour at all! For those of you who have decided to add more green smoothie to your diet in this new year, this smoothie is perfect for you.

Spinach is my top choice for smoothies as it breaks down super easily, which means you don’t end up with weird bits that more resemble a soup than a smoothie if you don’t have an awesome blender. The almonds and hemp seeds up the protein content, and the maca and mesquite powders give it a great superfood boost to get your day started!

Mesquite actually has quite the caramel-like flavour to it, so it’s an awesome low-gi, high mineral addition to any smoothie! I get both superfoods from Loving Earth.

Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 1 cup (250ml) almond milk
  • Handful of spinach (about 1 cup/ 250 ml)
  • ½ cup (45g / 125ml ) almonds*
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder
  • 1 tbsp mesquite
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
  1. Simply add your almond milk, spinach, hemp and almonds to a blender and blend until smooth, about 3 minutes. You want everything to be as well mixed as possible so you don't have any chunky bits.
  2. Add the rest of your ingredients and blend to combine.
  3. Pour into a glass or jar and enjoy!
Notes
*Soaking your nuts overnight in some water with a pinch of salt will make them easier to break down as well as activate them. Simply wash in the morning and add to your blender.
My Favourite Green Mylk Smoothie!

Smoothies are actually my favourite way to sneak in some greens to my breakfast. I need my breakfast to taste breakfast-y (crazy right?) and having raw leaves hasn’t quite made it for me yet. Maybe some day.

But for now, I’ll stick to smoothies!
